Back in 2025, I started searching for a job at a terrible time. I was living in Washington D.C., where the government was laying off tens of thousands of super experienced and qualified people.
And my company, a government funded research lab, was being hit really hard too. I was fully expecting to be laid off, so I started looking.
6 weeks later, I had a $200,000 offer from Amazon Web Services as a Technical Project Manager.
But what’s even crazier is that, when Amazon Web Services laid me off the next year, I had to do it again. The market was flooded with tens of thousands of super qualified people from AWS, Oracle and Meta. But just a few weeks into looking, I landed an even higher-paying and more interesting job at Google.
I might be a bit of an extreme case, but I do think that there are some things I do differently that help me land jobs extremely quickly. So I wanted to share a few of those tips with you, so that you can land your dream job faster.
