NEWS TODAY: Nancy Guthrie search, Jesse Jackson dead at 84, US-Iran nuclear talks, latest updates

We are hearing reports that Iran has conducted live missile drills today, firing into the Strait of Hormuz as nuclear talks between the U.S. and Iran are taking place in Geneva. This comes as President Donald Trump ordered a buildup of U.S. military forces in the Middle East and has threatened to strike Iran if its leadership does not agree to a nuclear deal.

Civil rights leader Jesse Jackson has died following a long health battle with progressive neuromuscular disease. Jackson marched alongside Martin Luther King Jr., negotiated global hostage releases, and pushed for peace and equality. “Our father was a servant leader – not only to our family, but to the oppressed, the voiceless, and the overlooked around the world. We shared him with the world, and in return, the world became part of our extended family. His unwavering belief in justice, equality, and love uplifted millions, and we ask you to honor his memory by continuing the fight for the values he lived by,” Jackson’s family said.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department says they have not confirmed the number of leads investigators are pursuing related to the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie. This comes as Feb. 17 marks the seventeenth day since the 84-year-old mother of NBC “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie, disappeared from her Tucson-area home. Reports at this time still indicate that investigators believe she was taken against her will. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department says investigators are working to locate Guthrie’s pacemaker. They are also continuing to process evidence that was obtained from search warrants executed last week.

We are hearing from authorities in Rhode Island as they release more information on the three people who died and the three others who were hurt in a shooting on Monday at an ice hockey rink. Tina Goncalves, the Pawtucket Police Chief, previously said that the shooting appeared to be a targeted event and that it may have been related to a “family dispute.” Reports have indicated that authorities are reviewing video taken from the hockey game. According to the Associated Press, unverified footage seen online shows players diving for cover and fans fleeing their seats after popping sounds are heard. Police Chief Goncalves, along with Governor of Rhode Island Dan McKee, provided an update on Tuesday afternoon.
